For the past two years, I have made it a habit to eat a hearty breakfast every morning. After all, it is the most important meal of the day. But, I hadn’t always thought that way. In fact, I was a habitual breakfast-skipper for a majority of my youth. My paradigm on breakfast has changed, however, and the moment I wake up, I need food to be in my stomach ASAP. This hurried attitude towards breakfast had always discouraged me from creating too labor-intensive concoctions in the morning hours. I assume a whole host of bakers out there understand this dilemma. Here are 3 reasons why you should battle instant gratification and make your monkey bread dough:
1. Boast a distinct taste
When made with pre-packaged dough, the taste of your monkey bread will likely be similar to others. Make yours stand out by mixing the dough and cultivating a taste that stands out from the rest. Every time I make monkey bread dough, it tastes just a little bit different. I enjoy the little inconsistencies because it brings some of me into the dish I am preparing for those I love.
2. Create special moments
If you are making monkey bread for your family, involve your children in the process. Teach them how to make the monkey bread dough and encourage them to help you form and shape them, then place the balls in a bundt pan. Tactile and visual learners will extra-appreciate the ability to create a recipe with another person. Make memories, make monkey bread dough.
3. Speed the process
It’s entirely possible to decrease the amount of time it takes to make dough – especially on those short and rushed mornings. Lately, I have started meal-prepping – on the weekends and in the evenings. When thinking of your monkey bread recipes, don’t fear the longer prep time with making the dough instead of using the pre-packaged varieties. I highly suggest preparing the dough the evening before (it takes only 10-20 minutes).
Next time you decide to jump into a monkey bread recipes, swap out pre-made doughs and try your hand at making it from scratch!
